Meet the team

I’m a Nurse Practitioner by trade and have taken care of pregnant women my entire career. I love being a nurse and working alongside my husband, a High-Risk Obstetrician.

But I’ve also loved baking ever since I was a child, inspired by my mom (and hero!) who is a sensational baker. Over the years, I’ve gifted my baked goods to friends, family, colleagues, and others—and have repeatedly been told, “You should sell this stuff!” But I couldn’t figure out how to make that work with another job and two young children.

About four years ago, I was experimenting with English Toffee because I couldn’t find any I liked. The recipe I created turned out to be a big hit with everyone who tried it, and, well...the rest, as they say, is (sweet, sweet) history.

Thanks to some divine intervention, I’ve been able to partner with the Stamford Museum & Nature Center to use their kitchen facilities, and my daughters are now old enough to participate in the launch and running of the business.

Life is delicious!

Hi!  I’m Sophia, the older daughter and the one who gets to take credit for naming our company!  I came up with it a few years ago, but it wasn’t until recently that the stars finally aligned, and my mom began the complicated process of starting the business.  I’m overjoyed to be a part of this endeavor—and even though being the “bookkeeper” sounds less exciting than “professional taste-tester”—being part of a mother-daughter company (and one bent on making the world a sweeter place) fills me with such pride. And since my mom is too modest to compliment her own work, (a great quality, by the way), I’ll also take on the job of bragging on her behalf, because her confections are truly heavenly. This business is built on the foundation of good food and strong women, and I can only hope to be half the hero my mom is—or at least half the baker! Hope your days are Shirley Delicious, and full of love!

Hi! I'm Ava, the artistic one in the family. I love baking, which I probably got from my mom, and love to create new things incorporating delicious food and beautiful decorations. When we came up with the idea of Shirley Delicious Confections, I was nervous it would take my wonderful mom away from me, but instead, I've found that it's brought us closer. I have appointed myself the "Director of Packaging Design and Social Media Manager” (which yes, was self- appointed) but I've jumped right into the business and can't wait to see where it goes and what we can do as a family!
